How I saved/made a little money today:
1) I was cleaning last weekend and found 4 old Verizon cell phones from when DH and I were in college. Well I'd heard that our local Verizon store takes them and recycles them for emergency use for a local battered women's shelter. I thought well that's better than collecting dust in my cabinet. I dropped them off and I turned to leave the sales girl runs up and gives me a $60 credit for Verizon. Well my cellphone is through work, so after lunch I went back and talk to accounting, they were more than willing to take the credit voucher and give me cash. :) YAY! straight to savings account.
2) Our neighbors in the condo next door have cranked their heat to high-that causes our condo to heat up too so I dropped our thermostat 4 or 5 degrees because DH said cut the heat or open the door its hot as h*** in here. This reduces our electric bill(we have heat pump in the condo).
3) I must have been on a cooking streak because we still have leftovers in the fridge for dinner. Which means somehow I cooked only 1 night this week because tomorrow we're going out to dinner with friends for New Year's Eve and Friday off to DH's parents for traditional pork roast New Years day dinner.
4) Worked out which in theory will help me stay in shape and reduce future medical costs
5) Returned some books I bought that someone also gave me as gifts-I don't need doubles so I wanted my money back. And I got DH's calander for $2 so I ended up after the transaction with a $20 refund at Barnes and Noble.
6) I stopped by Macys-I have a giftcard and some coupons and I want a breadmaker-specifically I think I want the Oster like FrugalSuz got-I've read great reviews. However I saw an Oneida for $30 dollars, after my coupon it would have been $10 (I have a $50 giftcard, so I was excited to have $40 leftover). I get to the register we open it to double check all parts are there-the hook was missing. It couldn't mix. Basically the whole thing was useless. So I saved my money and decided I'll keep looking for a great price on a breadmaker. :) Glad I didn't get it home and realize, then waste gas to go back. Plus I could use my coupon on something else.
I'm off work tomorrow. So I am running some errands-I am getting a haircut with a free giftcard I got for Christmas, picking up wine glasses someone bought and got engraved for us as a gift, and passing by the store. So tonight I'll be reviewing the grocery ad(my ad runs Thurs-Wed) to see what we need and if there are any good deals.

I'm also looking for a deal on a bread machine, let me know if you find one!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very nice deal that your work place gave you. Cash is king!
ReplyDeleteKudos on reducing the heat. I wish I had neighbors here. No one above me as far as I can tell and I am not even sure there is anyone next to me. They have been working upstairs getting it ready to rent.
Nice job on all the money saving. I will keep my eyes open for a breamaker deal for you and Lisa.
Thanks! Everyone I know who has a breadmaker stopped buying store bought bread. I figure it's probably goign to be a bit healthier if we don't have all the preservatives
ReplyDeleteAwesome savings! Were the calenders on sale & BN? I normally buy a Provence, France one at BN for DH. His dream is to visit Provence one day :D
ReplyDeleteHappy New year!
