Monet Saving Challenge

It seems to have been a pretty busy week in the G household. A few things to discuss I had a great trip to the grocery store that had a small hiccup.
I went to the store on Thursday evening because on Wednesday evening I saw a sign for pillsbury refrigerated cookie dough-Peanut butter was being discontinued so it was $0.75/each, with the coupons I have it would have been free. I was going to get 4 and freeze it.

So Thursday I went in grabbed 4 I get to the self checkout and it says $1.50, I was not happy to pay double what was priced the night before on markdown. Then as I'm waiting for the checker to assist me with my question-I notice they all say 2/12 expiration date. This was 2/18 I pointed this out to the checker and said I didn't want them. What upset me the most she put them back on the shelf expired....I know you can freeze them but they were in refrigerated shelf section......I mentioned it to the manager.

I did find some great finds. I don't often by organic meats. But I found 2 packs of the store organic brand pork chops marked down to $2 each(original price $9.50/each) and 2 packs of store brand organic chicken drumsticks for $2 each(original price $9/each). I had 2 copons for $1 off organic brand chicken. I also got 2 packs of Hershey's Bliss on clearance for $1 each, I used a $1 coupon on each. Total transaction I had a $7 off next purchase coupon about to expire that I used. Paid $4 out of pocket and saved 78%. I have $38 left in my grocery/household budget for the month.

We are very excited because we have a first quiet weekend. So we've decided to go see a movie with free tickets, rearrange our living room(we inherited a free very comfy love seat from my parents that they never used in 8 yrs). We've had it a few weeks and haven't really liked where we left it in the living room. We have several dvr'd things from the week we will watch, and I since I started watching NCIS maybe a month ago I got an older season from the library. I love the library since it provides free entertainment. We're also going to bake some banana bread in the bread maker.

I will also continue to clean out/purge/remove unwanted clutter from our home. We have several large plastic 3 drawers storage containers from various sizes in random closets from our college days. I have several I'm going to clean out (they are filled with blank notebooks from college days I will be giving those to my sister in college). Also I'm thinking about using these in the office closet for DH to have a place for his computer related items. I'll be working on that project this weekend and will post pics.

I also claimed another $5 Amazon gift card from Swagbucks.
I used several of my free Amazon gift cards earned from Swagbucks to buy a cookbook for my sister in law's birthday in May and a book for myself. $31.00 free shipping, and I still have $4 bucks left in my Amazon account. I love free stuff!

  1. Great meat deals. When I find an expired item, I always ask the manager of the dept. to mark it down. They usually do.

  2. Precious-while normally I would have asked for a markdown-these were 6 days past the expiration date, the markdown price had been increased in price since the night before. Plus I didn't know how good it would be since it was 6 days expired(we had a 3 day power outage and the store didn't have a backup generator so I'm a bit iffy). They were unforuntately not willing to mark the dough back down to the $0.75 they had it at the night before.

Upside I wouldn't have even looked for this discounted meat as I was in a hurry. So I was lucky the dough was priced too high and expired. I love cheap meat.
