Money Saving Challege/Grocery store trip

Well today I did a few things to save money.

*I cashed in 45 Swagbucks to get a free $5 Amazon gift card. This will be used towards gifts for others this year and will help me to minimize our gift budget. (Click on the link in the top left corner that says Swagbucks to join, if you're not already a member. Unfortunately, only one account per household is allowed). It's very easy to do.

* My log cabin bank is getting heavy and it's difficult to be G's change in(that's what I call DH...yes I know it's odd to call someone by a letter, but it works for us). So I counted the change. $32. Not bad. I decided to autotransfer that amount from our checking into our savings. I didn't feel like rolling change. So I got a baggie and decided I will use it slowly at the grocery store or Walmart if I am in autocheck lines where you just deposit it in the slot. I also trade it for $1 at work for people using vending machines.

* I went to the grocery store for a few odds and ends because I was on a sales call right next to one. Here's what I grabbed
2 Reynolds wrap foil 30ft each $1.69 (not on sale) but I had $0.75 coupons, doubled to $1.50=$0.19/each. These coupons expired 12/31/09. I saw they were out of date at the register and asked the cashier-who turned out was assistant manager. He said I could use them no prob. I told him I had 2 more at home, he said come back before the end of the week and feel free to use them. I thanked him. He's very nice.
1 Smuckers Red Raspberry jam on sale $2, use $1 off Q. (We have a friend who works at smuckers, he gets all kinds of things free and can shop at their in plant store and gets discount there. Those items are cheaper than the grocery store however he cannot use coupons. I can get better deal combining sale and coupons than he can. Of course anything he has free (pilsbury mixes, pancake mix, hungry jack waffle snacks) I will always take. :)
1 Grands biscuits 5 pk on sale $1, use $0.35 coupon, doubled to $0.70=$0.30 total.
I paid $1.80 out of pocket. I gave him $1.80 in Quarters from my piggy bank. It was great. Half the cost was tax, but the receipt says I saved 80% so I'm pretty happy.

This evening we stuck to our meal plan. At lunch we ate leftovers from last night. We'll be doing laundry and I'll be going to the gym for entertainment I'll be watching tv from the stairmaster. DH is planning on reading a few technology related magazines and books he got at work. So it'll be a low key night here :) Thank goodness the week is half over, I'm looking forward to the weekend.

*ETA-I went to the gym for an hour an half, watched some NCIS, listened to music and didn't even notice I was doing cardio for 1.5 hours. I felt great, happened to have my coupons so I stopped at the grocery store(yes again, there's one right next to my gym).
I got an 80ct of snuggle dryer sheets(3.99 used $3 Q), two 40 ct snuggle dryer sheets($1.99 I had a $2 off Q and a $0.75 Q which doubled to $1.50). Total cost=$1.47 for all of them.
2 Foil 30 sq ft, used same $0.75 Q again, doubled so total=$0.19/each
Land of Lake spreadable marg. $2.19- $0.40 Q doubled to $0.80.
I also had $2 off your next purchase.
Total out of pocket= $1.61($0.57 of this is tax). I was excited!

  1. Wow those are some great deals you got. I love change! I am finding that my neighbors here at the apt. complex evidently don't. Everytime I go out to my car I see small change laying on the ground. You can bet it is no longer on the ground! :-)
