Especially since we're decluttering DH and I don't buy gifts for our anniversary, Valentine's Day, or Sweetest Day. We prefer gifts of experience-for example for our anniversary we went out to a nice dinner and to the theater to see a lovely Christmas play in December. We went to the zoo, a movie, and a lovely dinner in October for Sweetest Day. I'd rather not buy him some random token...and he purchased me tons of super soft and huge stuffed animals when we were first dating. But I want him to have a little something on Sunday. So since he's out tonight, I'm making him homemade truffles. The cost is like $14 for a box at our local chocolate shop....but I like making a great big mess in the kitchen and having fun doing it. :)
I make 3 different kinds(so simple ingredients and super cheap) His entire gift (I'm making him 4-5 dozen, I will stash some in the freezer for him behind the veggies(he'll never look there). Total cost to me about $2 I had coupons for the cream cheese and got it free, chocolate and peanut butter were under $1 and from my pantry. I like to use chips because it's easier to melt quickly.
I make milk chocolate with peanut butter filling
I make dark chocolate with milk chocolate filling(these are so rich and yummy just 1 curbs my chocolate cravings)
I make a milk chocolate with a milk chocolate filling.
So what ingredients do you need for filling
Philadelphia cream cheese-1 block softened and chocolate-melted. Whipped together in a mixer. In the peanut butter filling-I use 1 cup smooth peanut butter(Skippy), 1/2 c. melted milk chocolate and 1 block cream cheese softened.
Refrigerate the filling for 1 hour. Then form into small balls.
Use a double boiler(this is a saucepan with boiling water with a glass bowl on top with chocolate in the glass bowl to melt it without burning). I use this as the coating-then put in freezer for 2 hours to set it all up. So yummy!!!
