Money Saving Challenge

I was a little out of control this morning ( I blame lack of sleep):
I walked outside and it was super foggy and white...but I thought it was blizzardy (like I said lack of sleep) so at 7am I went back in and put on my boots (we had no precipitation) I got some crazy looks.
I went to CVS when they opened and grabbed twelve 12 pks of diet mt. dew/pepsi and pepsi throwback for DH and a pack of eclipse gum for his car. DH calls this "Dew Mountain" lol.

Total was $43. I used $5 off $20 coupon, $22 ecbs and paid $7 on free gift card. I got back $20 ecbs.

I realize I could have done the orders separately and paid only $2 by using a second $5 off $20. But there were only 9 diet mt. dews there and I didn't want to risk waiting til tomorrow and the assistant manager who is weird about coupons was the only one there because I literally check out 1 minute after they opened. It was worth it to me.

I've been having issues with ECBs I earn from CVS advisor panel beeping at the register-they used to add to your card and would print at the machine but now they email them. I've had the same issue twice $2 one yesteday and a $15 one today. It says already used and comes up with todays date in both instances. They pushed them through but it's still annoying to me.

Happy hounding folks.

Funny DH story I decided to share(this is why I had no sleep) DH went out with the guys for the night in another town and was sleeping over. So I enjoyed a nice night to myself last night(it's rare our house is quiet so I caught up on some reading). I get a phone call at 1:30 in the morning, DH and friend "C" are freaking out he can't find his bank card and well he's drunk. I am not upset that's he's drunk but it's a running joke he loses/breaks/ or drops his card into the inside of the car door at least 2 times a year(little bit afraid the bank may start charging us). So he tells me call the bank and cancel the card. I assume he's opened a tab and forgotten so I ask-he says no he wouldn't do that. Turns out that's exactly what he did. Except he forgot-had me cancel the card. Then when the boys start to leave that bar-the bouncer stops him-DH tells him he gave the bartender a card(he remembered then....odd I know but beer was involved). The card was declined-why because I made them cancel it in the middle of the night apparently he was still at the bar at that point. Friend C paid in cash. DH must have forgotten he called me because he couldn't figure out why his card would be declined because we keep X amount as cushion above our bills directly in checking (separate from our savings accounts). So DH comes home today and he and C have no recollection of calling me or that conversation. Needless to say he's crazy...... But the best part about this is I'm really pleased with the customer service I get from Chase. I called them at 1:45 in the morning. Cancelled his card(keep in mind I was half asleep and I couldn't remember his SSN so the customer service rep was kind enough to go the extra steps to find it through our bank account number. Unfortunately she couldn't tell how much had been charged in the past hour(so we decided I would call back mid day Sunday to follow up) but I was concerned and couldn't sleep because I was worried someone had found the card and used it for a very expensive bar tab(we've seen that happen to others before). I called back today not only are we going to have his replacement by Tuesday but they verified no charges were made. :) When he showed me the card (the bartender had gotten it stuck in the register and it's literally all bent up and cracked across the bar stripe-we'd have to order another one anyway).

I'm glad I've stayed with Chase and #2 DH is only getting cash when he goes out on guys nights from now on.

  1. I'm going to be doing the CVS deal to get my Mt Dew also. Hope they have enough stocked! :)

  2. That story is hysterical! I would only be giving him cash next time too! Perhaps I shouldn't be giving advice though; I mailed my Visa card accidentally at one of those mailboxes in front of the Post Office and had to cancel mine.

  3. Lisa-Hope you got your Dew! I'm done buying for now unless I need to burn some ECBs (I have a raincheck for 2 diet mt. dews for $2.50 each to use in that instance). I took a picture of our stock, I'm slowly getting used to adding pictures to my blog. I'm not as good about it as others. Hopefully one day.

Precious-He lost one inside his car door earlier this year while in line at fast food to use it, he was tapping it on the edge and dropped it down between the door and the window. We heard it fall all the way down.
